Report about the Kamailio World Online 2022
Usually all Kamailio developers and everybody in the Kamailio projects meet together in Berlin in the spring for the annual Kamailio World Conference. Due to the unclear and constantly changing situation regarding the Corona virus situation, it was again decided to do a smaller conference in an online format.
The conference focussed more on talks closer to the Kamailio project and were not covering the whole set of related projects (e.g. for monitoring, call rating etc..).
The talks covered many interesting topics, from a new TLS module based on an alternative SSL library, several talks related to 5G/VoLTE infrastructure with Kamailio towards best practises for operation and deployment.
It was held on two days in the (German) afternoon to evening beginning of September. Beeing the third time that we had this online conference, the conference platform worked really well thanks to the great preparation from Daniel and Fred. Many thanks to both of them for hosting the conference and providing the necessary technical infrastructure.
The conference program and all talks can be found here. All recorded talks will be available on the KamailioWorld youtube channel here.
In the evening we also celebrated the 21th birthday of the Kamailio project with some (distributed) cake and drinks.
Overall we had a really good participation, about 100 people were present in the sessions or watched them on youtube. The project Matrix channel were also used a lot to discuss the talks and relatedt topics.
This year I decided to give a talk about a topic related to infrastructure operation. I describe different scenarios and approaches one could use to manage Kamailio servers and their configuration. We use this approach in different projects with configuration management tools like ansible or docker container.
You can find the presentation slides in the archive on this page.
The talk recording is available on youtube as well. You can find it here and also below. My talk starts around 1h, 7m.
Overall I really liked the experience of the conference, even if of course it can not fully replace a meeting in person in a conference center etc..
But I am really happy to participated in it and looking forward to the next year edition, which should happen again in Berlin.
We can support you using and configuring Kamailio - more information here.

I am exited to see all this extensions which were contributed by many different individuals and companies in production soon. Our project has now almost 34000 commits to the master branch. About 1200 commits were done for 5.6.0 from more than 60 different individual contributors.

Report about the Kamailio World Online 2020
Usually all Kamailio developers and everybody in the Kamailio projects meet together in Berlin in the spring for the annual Kamailio World Conference. For obvious reasons this year this was not possible, so we decided to do a smaller conference in an online format.
The conference focussed more on talks closer to the Kamailio project and were not covering the whole set of related projects (e.g. for monitoring, call rating etc..).
The talks covered many interesting topics, from high-availabilty setups with Kamailio to security protection against attackers, modern development with docker and even a Ask Me Anything session with the developers.
It was held on two days in the (German) afternoon to evening beginning of September. Looking for a VoIP & Kamailio Dev-Ops
We were lucky to receive many applications and are happy to announce that Martin Mikulec joined our team.
If you are interested in working with us, just send us a quick e-mail to introduce you. We might have other openings in the future coming up.
2020 has been an interesting year so far, for most of the world. The first half of 2020 is already over, lets hope the second half brings less suprises.
We were lucky we've got many customer requests during this time, in fact too many that we could handle. Due to the continues move to digital and remote work, there is a growing demand for Voice over IP services.
Therefore we are looking for a new colleague to join and grow our GILAWA team.
Report about the Fosdem conference 2020 and the regular Kamailio meeting
Every year between January and February the biggest Open Source developer conference in Europe FOSDEM takes place in Brussel, Belgium. Organized completely by volunteers it showed again this year how big the Open Source community has grown. This year over 9000+ developers participated, countless tracks and many developer rooms were filled for the complete weekend with people.
On Sunday all interested developer in voice over IP and other real-time communication topics gathered together in the developer room. This year we got an even bigger room with more capacity to provide plenty of space for the different talks during the day. I also supported Saúl Ibarra Corretgé and Daniel-Constantin Mierla with the organisation of the room, making sure that everything runs fine.
The most crowed talks were from the Matrix and Nextcloud project, here we used the full capacity of the room. Asterisk, Homer SIP Capture, Janus, CGRateS and many other projects did presentation as well. Of course also several talks over WebRTC and XMPP completed the day.
On Saturday evening we met together as usual for a VoIP/RTC & Kamailio project developer dinner. As usually we got to taste the great Belgium beer and delicous food in a pub nearby. This time the event was generously sponsored from Open VoIP Alliance and VoicenterCloud. Over 40 developers from different voice over IP and real-time communication projects joined for the dinner, see below for several pictures of the evening.
Many thanks to Open Voip Alliance and VoicenterCloud for sponsoring the evening event!
I gave this year again a more developer oriented talk at FOSDEM, in the end it is a developer conference. Some of the talks are in my opinion too much targeted towards marketing their respective project. Because of the many talk submissions all the time slots in our development room were really short, only 15 minutes. So it was quite a challenge to compress the talk to this format.
This is the abstract of the talk: "Kamailio as widely-used Open Source SIP Server is used to implement large and complex real-time communication platforms. Ensuring a good user experience, performance and quality can be a challenge in these environments. The talk will present different ways how to use the power of Kamailio to support you with a modern testing and debugging workflow."
You can find the presentation slides in the archive on this page. This version contains one more slide related to new developments in the git master version, which I needed to skip because of time constraints.
The talk recording is still not online, It will show up at their website. I will also add a link to this page when its online.
It was great to be at FOSDEM again for another year, eleven times so far for me. I will be most probably be there again in 2021.
]]>Report about the great Kamailio Developer Meeting 2019 in Düsseldorf.
Middle of November (14th to 15th) 2019 the second edition of the Kamailio developer meeting happened. 16 Kamailio developers came together in Düsseldorf (Germany) to spend two days hacking on the Kamailio code. We were happy that sipgate offered to sponsor the event venue in their offices in Düsseldorf again. This time we got a more detailed overview about their system monitoring and we were also able to enjoy there good food during lunch time.
At Thursday sipgate invited us in the evening to their own company pub "Hafenquelle", were we shared some great pizza and had a few cold drinks. Several colleagues from sipgate and other Kamailio community members joined us during the evening as well. It was a great evening to socialize, discuss and share interesting stories.
Many thanks to sipgate for sponsoring the event and the other companies that covered their expenses for the participants.
This developers participated in the development meeting:
The following picture shows all participants during the social event on Thursday evening.
Comparing to the last year edition we spent much more time discussing different topics and working together. This might be one of the benefits that this year we were a more diverse and also larger group of people. I really enjoyed to meet new and old members of your project community, working together and getting to know each other better.
These were the main topics which were worked on:
Giacomo Vacca created a great summary of the discussed topics. You find it at his blog: link
You find also a summary on kamailio.org: link
The following pictures might give you some impressions about the event.
Overall it was again a great and productive developer meeting, and I hope that we can repeat this in the next year.
About the Kamailio meetings in Istanbul and Cairo November 2019
I will be around middle of November in Istanbul and in Cairo a few days later.
I am thinking of organizing a Kamailio/SIP/VoIP social networking event (perhaps a dinner or a pub meeting).
Also announced on the sr-users and sr-dev mailing lists.
Possible dates are the 19th - 20th November in Istanbul and the 23th - 24th November in Cairo. Are people from the community interested in joining such an event?
If you want to participate in one of the event, write me your preferred date here. Based on feedback that I get, it will be decided whether it is going to happen and when.
This section will be updated during the next weeks with event details.
I got contacted from Kamailio developers at TURKCELL, one major cell phone provider in Turkey. There will be a meeting probably at their offices with several of their developers.
